Message from the Founders...

Caring and love are universal to all cultures. Taking one step further, when caring and love are giving to children, they become the cornerstone of a healthy, secure and joyful life that breeds productive members of society.

Madalena and I come from sizeable, yet caring and loving families. Born and raised in the tiny island of Brava, Cape Verde, we have first hand experience of the struggles that the children you are about to meet, face and overcome on the daily basis as thousands of them suffer from malnutrition and low self-esteem. As parents to four children, we believe that a well nourished child will also be more inclined to learning and become better prepared for adulthood.

After returning from a late Fall 2002 trip to Cape Verde Islands and concerned with the well being and education of these children, the DeAndrade family provided the initial investment and developmental resources and with the support of the Embassy of Cape Verde in Washington, D.C. and mentorship of Ambassador Brito, we formed Cabo Verde Children, Inc. in Brockton, Massachusetts.

As you know, literacy opens doors to more than just knowledge, communication and dignity. The ability to read and write creates a better future for themselves but as often is the case, parents in low-income districts of Cape Verde pull their children from school for lack of resources to buy books and other basic school supplies and fees. We are confident that with your support we can help to preserve the precious health and education of these children by providing them with nourishing food and financial resource to continue their education.

These challenges don’t have to happen to these precious children. You can make a dramatic difference in the life of one child and his and her entire community. Developed specifically for this purpose, by supporting Cabo Verde Children project, your sponsorship financial commitment not only provides a child with nutritious food, but also helps empower the community to know that others care and bring about change themselves through education and involvement.

Our families including our children who are very involved in the process are proud to have had the opportunity to share our love and our resources with these wonderful children. Together with your support we can change the course of life for hurting Cape Verdean children and their families by providing nourishment, comfort, security and opportunity for generations to come.
