She has been focusing her graduate studies in the area of
Cultural Anthropology with a focus on Capeveredean Culture. She
also is committed to teaching English to Kriolu and Portuguese
speaking adults. She is writing for CaboVerdeOnline.com and is
also a contributing writer of “Fandata”. QuaVardis is a
dedicated member of the Marion Community Baptist Church of
Marion, MA, which her father Rev. Dr. Gomes is the Pastor.
Ms. Gomes is a third generation Cape Verdean and has always
desired to go to Cabo Verde and give her heart to Gods call.
Having visited Cape Verde in 1998, with the University of Rhode
Island and Rhode Island College under the leadership of Dr. Joao
Monteiro and Dr. Richard Lobban, Ms. Gomes decided she would
return to Cabo Verde, after her graduate studies to work with
the children of Cabo Verde. Ines Silva and Indiana Burgo visited
M.C.B.C. and Ms. Gomes became interested in working with Cabo
Verde Children Project. By directing the missions work at her
church, she organized a committee that raised funds for our
program and informed others of the needs of Cabo Verde. When we
approached QuaVardis about the need for volunteers to work with
us in Cabo Verde she immediately agreed to go.
"When I was in Cabo Verde visiting schools or meeting children
in villages, and on the street I kept hearing the same message
that they would say, “Stay and be my teacher.” This is something
I have not forgotten and hope to fulfill with CV Children
Project and God!”
